The Annual Juneteenth Scholarship Program

The Mission

The Juneteenth Pageant is designed to enrich the lives of young girls, as well as provide resources to help them in their journey of becoming active and positive role models in the community. Our mission is to stimulate self-development and growth in youth by teaching them life skill, interpersonal communications and the importance of family and positive relationships.

“Juneteenth is a Day of Reflection”

  1. Juneteenth is a day of reflection, a day of renewal, a pride filled day. It is a moment in time taken to appreciate the African American experience. It is inclusive of all races, ethnicities and nationalities – as nothing is more comforting than the hand of a friend.

  2. Juneteenth is a day on which honor and respect, is paid for the sufferings of slavery. It is a day on which we acknowledge the evils of slavery and its aftermath. On Juneteenth we talk about our history and realized because of it, there will forever be a bond between us.

  3. On Juneteenth, we think about that moment in time when the enslaved in Galveston, Texas received word of their freedom. We imagine the depth of their emotions, their jubilant dance and their fear of the unknown. Juneteenth is a day that we commit to each other the needed support as family, friends, and co-workers. It's a day we build coalitions that enhance African American economics.

  4. On Juneteenth we come together, young and old to listen, to learn and to refresh the drive to achieve. Its is a day where we all take one step closer together – to better utilize the energy wasted on racism. Juneteenth is a day that we pray for peace and liberty for all.

2011 Pageant: "Behold A Lady"

This year, pageant participants will be exploring what it means to be in character at all times while representing the Juneteenth Pageant in an honorable and respectable manner. Workshops will include topics that represent the 6 pillars of character in support this year's theme:

  • "Trustworthiness"
  • "Respect"
  • "Responsibility"
  • "Fairness"
  • "Caring"
  • "Citizenship"

Participants will also be involved in community service, fundraisers, parades, and a talent showcase. Come join us at this year's pageant and where you will be able to behold 50 young ladies.
